Tigers’ plans beginning to confuse..
$14 million is not chump change, and it just might be enough to get Johnny Damon to wear the Old English “D”. But do we want him in The D? The Tigers traded Curtis Granderson because they could remove some cash from the payroll. They did the same with Edwin Jackson, instead choosing to take on Max Scherzer and his distance from arbitration. Locking up Verlander made sense and provided stability to the pitching rotation. Even doling out the cash to get Jose Valverde made sense because of what the closer can provide to lock down games. But $14 million for an aging outfielder who blocks the team from using a younger player? Scott Boras is pulling the sheets over Mike Ilitch’s eyes on this one. I hope Damon gets an offer elsewhere. If this were ten years ago, great. It’s not. He’s 36. That’s old. And not worth $14 million.
Quick hits of the day:
– Leave my bank account alone and remember your pledges Mr. President. Taxing the middle class is not going to help the country.
– I really hope Vice President Biden knocked on a seriously LARGE piece of wood. For some reason he decided to declare a large-scale terror attack unlikely. Talk about teasing someone you shouldn’t. This is like dangling a rib-eye in front of a shark and hoping it will sniff it and swim away “because it’s full”.
– I’m becoming a bigger and bigger fan of John Stossel every time I see a report from him. I’m glad he is publicizing this gem from my home state of Michigan. Someone the state thinks it fair to unknowingly unionize private entrepreneurs.
– If I’m Iranian, the last thing I want to be doing is using a national e-mail service. Way to ban gmail Iran. Bad move.
– Casa Italia in Smethwick serves up a meal – the garlic bread, calzone and lasagna were fantastic (yes, I had all 3)!
Goodnight and God Bless,
Scott
